Meet John, our Electronics Division Manager. With an MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, John is an experienced professional with demonstrated expertise in electronics, wireless communication and RF microwave components. Moving from hands-on engineering roles to business development and sales, John has extensive knowledge of Albacom’s practical divisions and oversees electronics and business growth. As John exceeds the one year mark in his role, we find out why joining the Albacom team was a full-circle moment.
“My first encounter with Albacom was back in the 1980s when it would have been known as Ferranti. After a short spell with another organisation in London, I returned to Dundee and joined Albacom as we now know it. It wasn’t long before part of Albacom was acquired by Trak Microwave, and that is where I spent the next twenty years in a range of positions from senior design engineer to business manager.
“I’ve certainly gone full-circle since my time at Ferranti and was delighted to join Albacom last year as its business development manager. I’ve spent much of my career specialising in RF Microwave. While Albacom has vast experience in this field, I was initially attracted to the position due to Albacom’s diverse offering in assembly and electronics. I felt it was time to try something different, and I knew that Albacom could facilitate my desire for change.
“Since joining the organisation, I’ve added electronics manager as another string to my bow. I oversee the design and manufacturing of our electronic components while strengthening our product line. I recently facilitated the development of our latest electronics offering – ALBA5 Sensors. This was an interesting challenge and showed the magnitude of our team’s varied skillset.
“In June, I was pleased to achieve a key milestone for Albacom – being appointed as an approved manufacturer of Greengage and its ALIS lighting platforms. There’s nothing I enjoy more than getting new business through the door, and as a proud British manufacturer, Albacom was perfectly placed for this partnership.
“Whether it’s liaising with existing customers, cultivating new relationships or supporting our team’s development, no two days in my role are ever quite the same. The engineer in me is a keen problem solver, and Albacom presents plenty of opportunities to put my solution-focused thinking into practice.
“With Albacom, the possibilities are endless. Our evolving partnership with Genista Energy is worth celebrating, and I believe it will only get more exciting as we continue to expand together. The future feels bright and I look forward to supporting Albacom to develop over the years to come.”
