Forty metres, no floor, and a genuine fear of heights. This weekend, at Killiecrankie.
Christy Ritchie, one of our electronics design engineers, is taking on the Highland Swing this weekend — a free-fall swing from a bridge forty metres above the River Garry at Killiecrankie, raising money for Cancer Research UK.
The detail we keep coming back to is that Christy is afraid of heights. Not mildly. The plan, apparently, is to face that head-on by stepping off a very high bridge and falling until the rope decides otherwise. We are not certain that is how the advice is meant to be applied, but we admire the commitment.
The countdown has been running for a while now, and the nerves are building as the days tick down. Everyone here will be thinking of Christy this weekend — some of us from the comfort of solid ground, which feels like the correct choice.
